Durham Elementary School -

Maria has worked at Durham Elementary School for the past 8 years as a Reading Discovery paraprofessional and yard duty supervisor. Maria is a total “can do” person! Maria works hard running reading groups in grades 1st-5th. She’s a fabulous reading teacher; she makes reading fun and interesting. She always goes that extra step to find ways for the students to relate to what they’re reading. As a yard duty supervisor she works diligently to keep our students and playgrounds safe; she always has her eyes and ears open, reports problems as they arise and looks for solutions. Maria has great rapport with the students, they love visiting with her, and they also know she’ll hold them accountable and they respect her for that. Lastly, Maria is our student site coordinator for Reading Pals, helping those students who can benefit from extra reading exposure. Maria is a great communicator. She has creative ideas and is always ready to help. Her colleagues love working with her, and appreciate her constant support. Maria Montante definitely deserves to be recognized for all she does!
